The Power of the Tongue

Death and life is in the power of the tongue.

A word fitly spoken cannot be undone.

Songs that have been sung cannot be unsung.

Because death and life is in the power of the tongue.

Many times my words have come out hard and cold,

And the harm that they've caused could not be foretold.

The wounds from our friends can cut deepest of all,

They either build us up strong or make us feel small.

I've asked the Lord to bridle my mouth,

To remove any gossip as far as north is from south.

To fill up my heart with only uplifting praise,

To give me true repentance for the rest of my days.

Lord, let my words be sweet today for

tomorrow I may have to eat them.

For we all often stumble and fall and offend in many things. And if anyone

does not offend in speech [never says the wrong things], he is a

fully developed character and a perfect man, able to control his

whole body and to curb his entire nature.
